If you want the best deal on a new car, buying a brand new one is unlikely to reap much in the way of savings. The best way to save money on a new car is to look at the deals on nearly new cars. They look and feel like the freshest new models on the market, but they can cost substantially less to buy. What's not to like?

Well, a nearly new car will have been used to some extent, and that might be a problem if you like to know exactly where your car has been. You'll also have your choice restricted to whatever is available, relying on the taste of others who have bought a new car and are now looking to sell. But, if you can find a car that ticks all of your boxes, you'll likely be able to buy it for far less than the original owner paid.

Better yet, nearly new cars are still covered by the initial manufacturer warranty, so even if you're looking at a two-year old car, for instance, you'll have as much as five years of cover remaining. Essentially, you're getting nearly all of the benefits of buying a brand new car, without losing an awful lot, and saving huge amounts of money in the process.

Nearly new cars differ slightly from pre-registered models, in that these cars will have been driven a few hundred miles to a couple of thousand miles and probably had at least one previous owner. But this does mean you can save thousands of pounds - as much as £10,000 or even £15,000 on certain models, with a range of flexible finance options and massively reduced cash prices. You'll probably still get most of that new car smell, too.

Read on for a selection of great value nearly new cars available right now on BuyaCar.

Nearly new small car deals

1. Renault Zoe

Nearly new deals from £25,000
Monthly finance from £376*

For the most part, electric cars have always been more expensive to buy than petrol or diesel equivalents, but the electric Renault Zoe didn't cost an awful lot more to buy than a similarly size petrol alternative. The trouble was its sub-100-mile range was far from adequate for anyone who needed to travel long distance on a regular basis.

Luckily, the latest Zoe promises up to 245 miles of range from a 52kWh battery. It comes in two flavours, the 110hp R110 and the 135hp R135. All cars get keyless entry, cruise control, and automatic lights and wipers. Go for a mid-spec Iconic model for reversing sensors, alloy wheels and a seven-inch media system.

Buy a nearly new example with BuyaCar and get an Iconic model for £27,500 (against a brand new price of £30,095) or a GT Line model for  (rather than paying £32,095).

2. Vauxhall Corsa

Nearly new deals Limited stock

The ever-popular Vauxhall Corsa is a top-seller among new drivers and elderly motorists alike, and the latest version feels more grown-up than previous versions. All models include a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights and alloy wheels, so even entry-level SE should prove to be a better-equipped car for those moving over from the previous generation.

Expect to pay £15,615 to buy one of these brand new from Vauxhall, along with a wait time that can extend beyond just a couple of weeks. Or buy a nearly new example with a handful of miles with BuyaCar from  and have it delivered in around two weeks. You can even have an electric version, called the Corsa-E, for  and avoid the wait that new cars are generally subject to.

3. Mazda 2

Nearly new deals Limited stock

While most manufacturers are opting for smaller, turbocharged engines for improved efficiency and acceleration, Mazda is sticking to its guns with its range of efficient petrol engines that it calls Skyactiv-G. Instead, it pairs the 1.5-litre engine with mild hybrid technology to take some of the stress away from the engine, in the name of efficiency, of course.

Like the Corsa, all models come with a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and alloy wheels, along with keyless entry, automatic lights and wipers, rear parking sensors, and cruise control. If you want LED headlights like the Corsa, you'll have to jump up to the mid-spec Sport Nav trim.

Nearly new crossover and SUV deals

1. Mercedes GLC

Nearly new deals Limited stock

The SUV trend is still going strong, but sometimes the biggest SUVs are too much. The GLC slots in beneath the GLE; it's based on the C-Class so it's more manageable around town, which is where most of these will find their homes.

AMG-Line used to be reserved for the sportiest models, but it's your entry point to the GLC range. It includes 19-inch alloys, a reversing camera, LED headlights and the latest MBUX media system. There's a pair of 2.0-litre diesel engines and a 2.0-litre petrol engine, along with a pair of plug-in hybrids - one diesel, and one petrol. Performance-orientated AMG models come with a 3.0-litre V6 in the GLC 43 and a 4.0-litre V8 in the GLC 63S. Other than an all-electric model, there's an engine choice for everybody, but it's the cheapest diesel that is most widely available due to its popularity.

2. Volvo XC60

Nearly new deals from £46,000
Monthly finance from £844*

Behind the bold Scandinavian design is a very safe SUV with a full suite of safety equipment. In fact, it was awarded the full five stars when it was subject to Euro NCAP's tests in 2017 (the previous version was also awarded five stars).

Expect dual-zone air-conditioning, LED headlights, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, a power tailgate, heated front seats, alloy wheels and a slick portrait media display in all cars, including entry-level Momentum. Engine choice consists of a pair of petrol mild hybrids badged B5 and B6, a diesel mild hybrid badged B4, and a pair of petrol plug-in hybrids badged T6 and T8, with prices starting from around £42,000 direct from Volvo.

3. Jaguar I-Pace

Nearly new deals Limited stock

If you like the look of an SUV, but don't want the diesel engine that usually comes with one, a nearly new electric I-Pace represents a hefty saving against its £65,000 list price.

All cars come with LED headlights, dual-zone air-conditioning, a 10-inch media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a further five-inch touchscreen for controlling things like climate control, and a 12.3-inch display behind the wheel. The electric motor produces 400hp and is good for 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, and a massive 90kWh battery provides the heavy car with a theoretical range of 292 miles.

Nearly new family car deals

1. Volkswagen Golf

Nearly new deals Limited stock

If you want options, the Volkswagen Golf has them. While most buyers will opt for the hatchback model, there's also an estate version, along with diesel (GTD), petrol (GTI), and plug-in hybrid (GTE) performance models, and a bonkers Golf R.

If it's the normal Golf hatchback you're after, even entry-level Life models come with alloy wheels, LED headlights, a 10-inch touchscreen, and a wireless phone charger. There's a couple of 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines, which you can have with our without mild hybrid technology, along with a 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.4-litre plug-in hybrid. While there used to be an electric version of the Golf (which you can still buy used here), it has been indirectly replaced with the ID.3.

2. Mercedes C-Class

Nearly new deals Limited stock

Fancy a sleek and comfortable car that offers a stylish interior with plenty of feel-good factor? Take a look at the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. With a new version soon set to replace this model, there are plenty of deals on saloon models, particularly with the 220d engine.

The cars we're looking at are also equipped with the desirable Premium pack, which adds a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to what is already a long list of standard features. AMG Line models all feature splashes of brushed metal and wood throughout the interior.

3. Ford Focus

Nearly new deals Limited stock

A 2020 Ford Focus in high-specification Titanium trim goes much of the way to bringing the same level of luxury as you can get in something like the Mercedes C-Class, for a much lower price.
