Which used Ford Galaxy should you buy?
Despite the rise in popularity of big SUVs, more traditional seven-seater people carriers still represent a great choice if you’re after a practical and versatile family car.
The Ford Galaxy is well worth being on your radar, not least because a reasonable number have filtered down on to the used market since its launch in 2015.
A decent selection of engines were available across the Ford Galaxy’s lifecycle, with the turbocharged diesel options being the best all-rounders for drivers after punchy and frugal family transport. There were also a couple of petrol units that promise superior performance, at the expense of fuel economy.
A petrol-electric hybrid option was also available, although do bear in mind that it was only added to the range in 2021, so cheap versions are hard to come by.

What used Ford Galaxy trim levels are available?
Compared with some other cars, the Ford Galaxy wasn’t available in many trims - there were only Ford Galaxy Zetec, Ford Galaxy Titanium and Ford Galaxy Titanium X models to choose from when new.
However, all come with a generous amount of kit as standard.
Ford Galaxy Zetec
The Ford Galaxy Zetec is the entry-level version. Because Zetec is normally a mid-range spec on cars like the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus, it means that even this base version comes fairly well-equipped. The only engines that weren’t offered with this spec were the 193PS petrol-electric hybrid and the 243PS 2.0-litre petrol. Key kit includes:
- Digital radio
- Eight-inch touchscreen media system
- Dual-zone air-conditioning
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Cruise control (later models)
- Automatic windscreen wipers (later models)
Ford Galaxy Titanium
The next step up the ladder is the Ford Galaxy Titanium, which, depending on the age of the model you’re looking at, was either the mid-level or range-topping spec. It came with every engine, bar the 243PS petrol, and could be specified with all-wheel-drive in place of the standard car’s two-wheel-drive set-up.
- Built-in sat-nav
- Keyless entry
- Lane-keep assist
Ford Galaxy Titanium X
Until it was removed from the range in 2020, the Ford Galaxy Titanium X was the flagship model. But you won’t ever find a Ford Galaxy Titanium X hybrid, as the petrol-electric version was only launched in 2021. Among the equipment highlights are:
- Heated front seats
- Panoramic sunroof
- Reversing camera
- Parallel parking driver assistance
Is a used Ford Galaxy a good buy?
The Ford Galaxy is one of the most appealing MPVs around. It’s extremely roomy and, thanks to the boxy shape, even adults and tall teenagers won’t be left wanting for headroom in the two third-row seats.
What really distinguishes the Ford Galaxy is its surprisingly decent handling around corners. You won’t go mistaking it for a sports car, but it doesn’t feel too out of its depth on twisty roads given it’s such a big, heavy vehicle.
That handling set-up hasn’t come at the expense of ride comfort, either. The Ford Galaxy irons out lumps and bumps in the road very well indeed.
