Few other cars are such a prominent identity as the Fiat 500, it's easy to see why this iconic city car one of the most popular cars in the world. When the new generation model first hit roads in 2007, it paved the way for a sea of other small, manoeuvrable cars that have since filled the streets of cities around the world.

Despite being in production for over a decade at this point, the 500's compact and curved design with that happy little face and chrome touches still carry a retro appeal, and we've picked out the best deals on used models that you could take advantage of today.

The Fiat 500 is the epitome of the city car. Its small yet energetic engine is perfectly matched to the size of the car, with peppy acceleration over short distances matched with light and easy to manage steering making it an absolute delight to drive around town centres. There's now an even more economical mild-hybrid engine available, too, with better fuel economy and lower emissions.

There is a huge variety of models on offer in a range of specifications at some very affordable prices - Fiat 500s on BuyaCar currently start from £84 per month. If you like the look of the Fiat 500, then chances are we can find one within your budget. Read on for our list of the best used Fiat 500 deals in 2020.

Fiat 500 Pop offers

At the bottom of the tree we have the Fiat 500 Pop, and when we say the bottom, we mean the bottom. There really isn't a lot going on here other than electric windows, electric wing mirrors and a USB port. You do also get LED daytime running lights, but in terms of tech, that's pretty much it - not to say that's necessarily a bad thing.

The result of this rather stripped back approach is a tremendously low price, and actually, we quite like the simplistic nature of the interior, you get an old-school radio set up complete with dials and buttons - its wonderfully retro, and actually quite appealing in a car like this.

There is the possibility of Pop models including a sat-nav, which was an optional extra from new, so be aware that some Fiat 500 models may include this little bonus.

Fiat 500 Pop Star offers

If you're looking for a few more creature comforts, you could instead go for the next step up in the range - the Fiat 500 Pop Star. Take everything you get in the entry-level trim and add air-conditioning, 15-inch alloy wheels and split-folding seats to open up the options when trying to squeeze your wallet into the boot.

This does all add a little more to the price, but air-conditioning might just be something you cannot do without, so think carefully before opting for the cheaper version - a choice you might regret during a long hot summer.

Fiat 500 Lounge offers

Opt for a Fiat 500 in Lounge spec and you'll be getting an all-round more complete package, although this does of course come at a higher price - newer models can be especially pricey.

As with other models on this list, we'd recommend looking for a lounge model with the 1.0-litre twain-air engine, as it tends to soften the blow on the cost front and also bring better fuel economy and more speed.

In terms of equipment you get a either a five-inch (or seven-inch for post-2019 models) touchscreen media display with Bluetooth and digital radio inside along with cruise control, a sunroof, rear parking sensors and a leather steering wheel.

Fiat 500 Collezione offers

One of the many special edition Fiat 500s that have graced the market over the years, the Collezione adds an extra touch of style to this little Italian fancy.

Aside from the subtle styling flourishes you can find around the front bumper, and the option of two-tone paintwork, you also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability as well.

All in all, the Collezione is not terribly over priced for what is essentially a cosmetic upgrade, and the inclusion of smartphone connectivity will help bring it right up to date.

Fiat 500 S

At the top of the standard Fiat 500 range we have the 500 S. Now while it is technically the sportiest version of the 500, the engines themselves have no more power than any other, but we do again recommend aiming for a 1.0-litre TwinAir variant for its improved power and economy.

You do, however, get a more dramatic exterior look with larger bumpers and grey alloy wheels. Inside, you get sports seats with contrasting colour schemes a larger, seven-inch touchscreen display, and a second display in place of the speedometer with a built in sat-nav. 2018 models and beyond will also come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.

So there's a lot of extra bang for you buck here, and we would definitely recommend taking this step if you have the budget.

Fiat 500 Star offers

The Fiat 500 range was updated in 2019, bringing in a new range of trim levels and a host of interior upgrades. Star models come with a seven-inch touchscreen media display along with a seven-inch digital instrument display. There's a modern feel inside, an up to date media system features 3D navigation, Bluetooth, a USB socket and digital radio, while Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also included as standard.

There are chrome touches through the exterior styling, with 16-inch alloy wheels and a fixed glass roof adding a little extra style. There's also comfort in abundance, thanks to automatic climate control, cruise control and a height adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel.

Fiat 500 Rockstar offers

Bumping up the price by £190 from new is the Fiat 500 Rockstar, which essentially offers a slight aesthetic variance on Star trim, without adding anything else of note. Additional chrome trims and tinted rear windows are about the only differences, so if you find yourself yearning for a little more sparkle, this will be right up your street.

Abarth 595 offers

What we have here is not strictly part of the standard Fiat 500 range. Abarth is a subsidiary company of Fiat that specialises in producing high performance variants of Fiat's production models.

The Abarth 595 is packed with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that can make 0-62mph happen in as little as 6.7 seconds in its most powerful form - entry level models are more like 7.8 seconds.

Then you have the bewilderingly loud exhaust and a very, very stiff ride that make you feel like you ought to be travelling a whole lot faster than you actually are. This can all get tiresome quite quickly if you're undertaking longer journeys.

While there are bigger, better an more practical performance cars out there, the Abarth 595 takes the enjoyment factor and multiplies it by some.
