Combining the factory-fresh feel (and smell) of a new car, with the lower prices of a used vehicle, pre-registered cars are some of the best-value models on the market.

Deals are especially good at the moment, so savings can run to £6,000 on a well-specified family car that's recently been launched - such as the Mercedes A-Class shown above - with larger discounts on bigger cars like the new Volkswagen Touareg or Audi A6.

Unlike a brand new model, there's no lengthy wait for the car to be built; it's ready for immediate delivery, with just a handful of miles on the clock.

Pre-registered vehicles haven't been sold to a customer before, but they will normally have been registered to a dealership. This means that you'll technically count as the second owner. Pre-registered cars already have their number plate. Most current models carry the latest 68-plate.

Dealers normally pre-register cars to hit sales targets and the practice is so common that there's often plenty of engine, colour and specification choice, giving you a good chance to find a car that's perfect for you.

Scroll down for some of the best deals available now, or click below for all current pre-registered deals. The prices have been taken from BuyaCar and include a finance deposit contribution (typically £300) which cash buyers should add to the price.

Zetec trim is a popular choice thanks to a list of standard equipment that includes alloy wheels, heated windscreen, 6.5in dashboard touchscreen and digital radio. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included as well, making it easy to plug in and control your apps through the touchscreen or with voice control.

BuyaCar price
£9,695

Also included is Vauxhall's touchscreen system which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy control of your phone apps.

Pre-registered Volkswagen Polo deal

Save £2,320 on list price
BuyaCar price
£13,990

Typical example Volkswagen Polo SE 1.0 TSI 95 (2018, 10 miles)
Price £13,990
Monthly finance payments
 from £205

You can pick from dozens of pre-registered Volkswagen Polos which are available for delivery now. All are versions of the latest model, which was launched last year, bringing a high level of comfort and quality. Pre-registered savings make prices competitive.

Many of the discounted Polos come with the least-powerful 1-litre engine with 65 horsepower (written as hp or PS). If your budget allows, you're probably better off with a 95hp car, which is faster and quieter when accelerating at speeds above 30mph. All cars come with air conditioning; SE trim adds alloy wheels, electrically adjustable mirrors, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy use of apps through the dashboard touchscreen and voice control.

For around £500 more, a beats edition car with larger 16in alloy wheels and eight-speaker sound system is within reach.

Price £18,995
 Monthly finance payments from £254

Finance payments for an entry-level, pre-registered Skoda Karoq aren't a great deal more than for a mid-range Ford Fiesta, thanks to strong demand for this family SUV, which keeps used car prices high, making fiannce instalments more affordable.

Not that the entry-level SE model feels like the bargain basement choice, thanks to a standard dashboard touchscreen that includes Apple Carplay and Android Auto software for easy control of music, navigation and messaging apps, among others. Alloy wheels, climate control and a handy ice scraper in the fuel filler door are included too.

You'll struggle to find a better car for family life at this price: the Karoq among the best when it comes to comfort, safety and interior space.

Save £8,205 on list price
BuyaCar price
£46,990

Typical example Volkswagen Touareg R-Line V6 TDI 286PS (2018, 50 miles)
Price £24,470
Monthly finance payments from £349

Promising Audi quality at Volkswagen prices, along with the carying capacity of a small barn, you can make an argument that the Volkswagen Touareg R-Line represents good value at well over £55,000.

Of course, that argument is much more persuasive when you take into account nearly-new discounts on the mid-range R-Line model, which reduce the list price by 15 per cent - for a car that's only been on sale for a few months.

The lengthy list of standard equipment includes leather seats, a motorised bootlid, four-zone climate control, rear-view camera and adaptive cruie control, which adjusts the speed to maintain a safe distance from any vehicle ahead.

Unlike the Touareg, the Santa Fe has seven seats and is also much cheaper - particularly when the 17 per cent nearly-new saving is applied.

BuyaCar price
£22,490

Typical example Mercedes A 180 d Sport Executive (2018, 14 miles)
Price £22,490
Monthly finance payments from £301

When the new Mercedes A-Class went on sale last year, its dual-screen digital dashboard and minimalist layout made other family cars look instantly outdated.

The hi-tech design is more than skin deep too: every A-Class is fitted with Mercedes' latest software, which can predict the radio station you want to listen to at different times of the day and learns how you speak, so voice control becomes more accurate.

Sport models include 17in alloy wheels, climate control and bright LED headlights, while the Executive pack increases the size of the central dashboard screen, and adds heated front seats.

With a high level of equipment and nearly-new discounts of 22 per cent, it's a compelling alternative to the Ford Focus.

Pre-registered sports car deals

Pre-registered BMW 4 Series deal

Save £10,360 on list price
BuyaCar price
£26,980

Typical example BMW 420i M Sport Auto (2018, 14 miles)
Price £26,980
Monthly finance payments from £371

Ordinarily, it might be the BMW 4 Series' muscular looks that you notice first, thanks to its long bonnet, curved roof and short bottled.

But at the moment, it's more likely to be the immense savings available on this two-door coupe.

There's currently more than £10,000 off the list price of a petrol-powered automatic 420i in high-specification M Sport trim. That's a 28 per cent saving on a popular car, which is an excellent deal, even though it's expected to be replaced with a new version next year.

Pre-registered Volkswagen Golf R deal

Save £6,130 on list price
BuyaCar price
£29,995

Typical example Volkswagen Golf R Estate (2018, 25 miles)
Price £29,995
Monthly finance payments from £419

The Volkswagen Golf R is staggeringly quick, with ability to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 155mph.

You can use that power in everyday driving too, thanks to four wheel drive to boost grip when accelerating and technical trickery to keep it stuck to the tarmac in corners.

And with discounts on pre-registered cars of more than £6,000, you can have Volkswagen's fastest Golf for the price of a lesser-powered GTI, although it might not be quite what you were expecting ... That's because the biggest savings are available for estate versions of the Golf R, which is an unusual combination of dull, practical design and sensational performance.

If the recipe isn't for you, then there are pre-registered Golf R hatchbacks costing around £3,000 more than the estate.
