Best pre-registered sports car deals 2020

Itching to get behind the wheel of a sports car? We have great value pre-reg deals offering discounts of up to £15,000 off new car prices

Ever dream of driving a sports car but assume it'll be too expensive? Well, what if that sports car had more than £10,000 stripped off its price? If that's the kind of discount that could turn your sports car dreams into a fun-filled reality, you might want to stick around and check out the deals we have on offer below.

You might be thinking these are just tired sports cars that have had 10 owners and travelled hundreds of thousands of miles, but that's certainly not the case here. These are all practically new cars, as shiny as when they left the factory, with only a handful of miles on the clock.

So, why are they so cheap? These are 'pre-registered' cars, which essentially means a dealer has bought the car from itself - normally to hit sales targets. That means they are no longer classed as brand new cars and therefore their price is often substantially reduced. It means that you become the second owner of the car (with the dealership as the first owner), but since no one need know the car is not brand new, this could be perfect way to purchase your next car.

Whichever way you look at it, a pre-registered car will get you practically all the benefits of a brand new car, but with a substantial saving. We can't promise that a rapid sports car will ever be 'cheap', but we can definitely go some way towards making them affordable. If this sounds up your street, read on for our pick of the best pre-registered sports car deals on BuyaCar.

Pre-registered BMW 4 Series deals

BMW 4 Series Convertible 420d M Sport list price: £44,445
BuyaCar price Limited stock

Anyone keen to get their hands on a brand-new BMW 4 Series? This model is soon to be replaced, but if you've seen the controversial-looking new model, you may be inclined to think very carefully about the pre-reg deals on the table here. The new 4 Series is already on sale with its hugely divisive looks, but for now the convertible version of the outgoing model remains available, and the savings you could make with a pre-registered offer are substantial - you could use them to bag a pre-reg Renault Clio to park next to it and still have a few quid left over.

It's hard to argue with that, especially when you're looking at fully-fledged M Sport models packed with tech and offering strong performance, and it doesn't matter which engine you pick, the savings are similar. Whether it's the 190hp 420d or the 313hp 435d xDrive, you can expect to see reductions of around £16,000. So if you're looking for a high-quality and expertly engineered driving experience with the added bonus of a folding hardtop, the 4 Series is an excellent choice.

Being a BMW, you can expect good levels of standard equipment, but it's worth digging a little deeper with a pre-registered model to see which of the optional extras have been included to ensure you're getting the absolute maximum for your money.

Pre-registered Volkswagen Golf R Estate deals

Volkswagen Golf R Estate list price: £38,305
BuyaCar price Limited stock

Something a little different here. You may not consider an estate car to be particularly sporty, but the Volkswagen Golf R Estate is packing serious punch. It features a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 300hp, which propels this practical family car from 0-62mph in just 5.1 seconds - three seconds faster than a BMW 420d Convertible. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Here we have another model on its way out. Like the 4 Series, the Volkswagen Golf R is set to be replaced by the all-new version in 2021. While the new Golf is much less of a departure from the model before it than the new 4 Series, you may still be enticed by the size of the discounts available on pre-registered versions of that outgoing model - savings of around £8,500 are currently on offer.

For the most part, the Golf R is essentially a similar prospect to a standard Golf. You get good levels of equipment with climate control, adaptive cruise control, a 12.3-inch touchscreen media system with sat-nav included, but the experience is heightened by the addition of two sports seats at the front and an aluminium gear knob. You also get larger alloy wheels for a bolder look on the outside, and of course it's immensely powerful.

Pre-registered Ford Mustang deals

Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT list price: £43,685
BuyaCar price Limited stock

Back to something a little more obviously 'sporty'. The Ford Mustang is an iconic machine and the epitome of a muscle car - a seriously powerful car that offers serious speed. There is a cheaper, watered-down version of the Mustang, with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 290hp - and that's still exciting to drive, with 0-62mph only taking 5.8 seconds, but we're much more interested in the full-fat 5.0-litre V8, though.

It's a huge engine that produces 450hp and brings that 0-62mph time down to just 4.6 seconds, so you're getting plenty of straight-line performance, not to mention the deep, powerful sound it produces. It might not be as precise around corners as a BMW 4 Series for example, but that's not really what you'd buy a Mustang for.

Cars like this are something of a dying breed, because it's becoming less and less acceptable to drive around in a gas-guzzling monster with a massive-engine pumping out a lot more emissions than most new cars on the road, but if you want one last hoorah behind the wheel of a proper muscle car, this is your chance.

Pre-registered deals on BuyaCar offer you a chance to save around £5,000 off the price of a brand new V8 Mustang in Fastback form, which comes with a reversing camera and parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, climate control and an eight-inch touchscreen media system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so it's not just a loud engine on wheels.

Pre-registered Mercedes C-Class Coupe deals

Mercedes C-Class Coupe AMG Line Premium list price: from £44,385
BuyaCar price from: £41,000
Monthly finance from: £621

Finally, we turn to something with a little more restraint. The Mercedes C-Class has been on sale since 2015, but it still holds up well alongside newer competition thanks to its sleek exterior and stylish interior, and in Coupe form it offers some pretty decent performance, too. We're looking primarily at C220d models here, with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 194hp taking it from 0-62mph in seven seconds.

In terms of savings, pre-registered deals on the C220d in AMG Line Premium trim have been known to offer savings of up to £15,000 compared to a brand new model, a car that comes with sports seats, a sports exhaust, sports pedals and a sporty AMG-style steering wheel. You also get a number of driving modes, from Eco through to Sport+, the latter of which makes the car feel sharper when you want it to.

But it's not all about sporting credentials. The C-Class coupe remains as well equipped as the well-to-do saloon, with two large screens: a 12.3-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel alongside a 10.3-inch touchscreen media system with digital radio, smartphone connectivity and sat-nav included and controllable with voice commands.
